Presto Nylon Tape Wound strings were developed to combine the tonal qualities of a gut string with the advantages of a steel core. As opposed to regular gut strings, they hold their tuning well regardless of weather changes. Yet Presto Nylon Tape Wound strings feature all the dark and soft tone beloved of gut strings. Despite their low tension they are very loud, making them ideal for jazz, rockabilly slap and bluegrass styles of bass playing.

Presto Nylon Tape Wound strings can be bowed, but it is recommend to roughen the string at the contact point with the bow with fine sandpaper and to apply a little rosin directly to the string.

As the diameter of these strings is slightly larger than most steel strings, minor modification of the string slots at the bridge and the nut may be required. Their steel core makes Presto Nylon Tape Wound strings suitable for use with both magnetic or piezo-style pickups.
