The Underwood pickup for double bass was one of the first pickups designed specifically for the instrument and has been a popular choice for 40 years. Each individual pickup is assembled and tested by hand to ensure high quality, superb craftsmanship and a durable pickup solution.

Each Underwood consists of two piezo elements which fit under the wings of the bridge beneath the G and E strings. The fit is very important to the sound of the Underwood and detailed installation instructions are included. The elements are on average 4.44 mm thick.

Minor modification to the bridge may be required. If the bridge slots are too narrow the slot must be widened using medium grain sandpaper or a small file. This is relatively easy to do on most bass bridges. Wood should be removed from the wing rather than the leg of the bridge. If the bridge slot is too wide, use the shims (provided) to keep the pickup in place.

In either case the fit should be neither too loose nor too firm, as this can affect the sound quality or the structural integrity of the pickup. The 6.35mm output jack is mounted on the tailpiece using the strap provided.

The Underwood can be left on the instrument with no noticeable effect on the acoustic sound. A preamp is not mandatory but can be useful for additional sound shaping and control. Feel free to contact us at bassico for more information.

Hallo zusammen, ich habe an meinem Bass mehrere Pickups, denn jenachdem über welche Verstärker man spielt kling mal der eine und mal der andere besser. Ich habe also die Möglichkeit unterschiedliche Pickups und ihre Sounds zu vergleichen. Das lohnt sich besonders, wenn man z.B. auf Festivals spielt bei denen nicht jede Band das eigene Equipment nutzt. Allerdings muss ich sagen, dass ich bei über 80% der Amps auf den Underwood zurückgreife. Für mich produziert der Underwood zusammen mit RotoSound RS4000 Saiten einen super Sound. Diese Kombination spiele ich jetzt seit über 20 Jahren auf unterschiedlichen Bässen. Der Pickup hat also schon einiges auf dem Buckel, aber er klingt noch wie am ersten Tag. Bei manchen Pickups dieser Bauart soll es hin und wieder Frequenz-Überlagerungen zwischen den beiden Piezos geben. Das Ergebnis ist dann, dass meist die A-Saite nur extrem Leise zu hören ist. Dieses Phänomen habe ich bei dem Underwood aber nie beobachtet. Natürlich ist das Thema Sound immer eine Geschmackssache, aber aus meiner Sicht kann man den Underwood nur empfehlen! Deshalb volle 5 Sterne ohne wenn und aber!
