The electret-condensor microphone itself has a tight pattern which allows for high rejection of surrounding noise, maximising gain before feedback. The unit is made of aluminium which keeps it lightweight yet strong. An LED indicates the battery or phantom power status.
Mounting the AMT bass microphone
The microphone sits in a shockmount assembly which is permanently attached to a flexible arm. This allows for maximum flexibility in positioning the microphone, which in turn optimises your control over your sound. The whole unit then attaches to the double bass using a suede-covered clamp (S25B & SP25B) that protects the instrument's finish, and that can easily be removed and attached to other double basses. Alternatively and for a more permanent setup, the unit attaches to the tailpiece (S25B-TP & SP25B-TP).
Standard Preamp - S25B & S25B-TP
The standard pre-amp is a rugged anodized aluminium box which houses the electronics needed to connect the microphone into a PA. The microphone plugs into the unit with a custom four-pin locking connector; the output is a regular male XLR connector for balanced use. The circuitry modifies the EQ, curve and gain into a clean signal, runs off battery or phantom power.
Super Preamp - SP25B & SP25B-TP
The Super Preamp included in the SP25B & SP25B-TP microphone systems offers even more flexibility and control. It features 3 outputs: a standard XLR for use with a PA system, an “isolation transformer” XLR output (useful for eliminating PA 'hum'), and a regular 6.35 mm line driver for use with amplifiers. The external volume control is for this output, while the internal volume control can be adjusted with a screwdriver. The unit functions with a 9-volt battery or phantom power, however AMT specifically recommends using the battery at all times. Additionally, the line driver and isolation transformer XLR output will not work without a battery in the pre-amp.
